Our willow chip is excellent for gardening projects, creating pathways and for protecting new plants and trees.
Grown and harvested locally at our new willow plantation. Our willow is grown sustainably as an arable crop. Willow is harvested every 3 – 4 years and naturally regrows through a process called coppice. Through the coppicing process we can reduce the carbon released into the atmosphere by undisturbed soil and reduced machinery emissions.
Willow crops boast many environmental benefits. Firstly, they create habitats for many mammals, birds and insects. One of the primary elements of this is willow producing nectar early in the season which support key species like the bee, this will help establish a strong population of pollinators helping increase floral diversity alongside increase productivity and yield of other crops. High rain falls and flooding is becoming a progressively prevalent problem, the willow crops help slow flood water helping mitigate flooding in residential areas. The root systems also stabilize the soil while also absorbing pollutants helping keep our rivers and waterways clean.
